Trolley hit squad targets Liverpool streets

A SPECIAL squad has been set up to find dumped and stolen supermarket trolleys.

It was formed after Liverpool council found itself clearing 3,178 dumped trolleys from city streets in just one year.

The new team will have just 24 hours to return each of the missing trolleys, but it is hoped most will be cleared far quicker.

The major supermarkets have all agreed to fund the hit squad to avoid enforcement action caused by the dumped trolleys.

Cllr Marilyn Fielding, safer, stronger communities cabinet member, said: “This is going to clear up something that really irritates people.

“The trolleys are obviously necessary for shopping, but when they are abandoned in the street they look horrible and are often used for anti-social activities.”
