Wirral farm wins North West food award for its asparagus

ORGANIC asparagus from a Wirral farm is officially the best in the North West.

Thurstaston’s Church Farm asparagus won the fresh vegetables category at the Fine Food North West awards.

Entries were assessed by a team of hand-picked judges including top chefs, speciality food retailers, food journalists and supermarket buyers.

Judges said that the asparagus was sweet, perfectly fresh and tasted fantastic. Church Farm grower Jonny Bentley said: “I’m really proud that our organic asparagus has been recognised at such a prestigious event. We work hard to make sure it's as tasty as possible.

“The British asparagus season is notoriously short, we're only selling until Sunday, June 21, so just a few days left.”

The asparagus now goes on to compete against Tasty Chips from Frodsham, Cheshire, for the overall winner of the Fruit and Vegetable category, to be announced on June 25.
