THE UK’s largest free celebration of African music and culture took place in Liverpool’s Sefton Park this weekend.
Africa Oyé 2009 provided nine hours of musical delights on Saturday and Sunday from artists including Kasaï Masaï, Group Loulou, Daby Touré, Freddie McGregor and special guests including Chino, Laden and the Millennium Band from Jamaica.
They were joined by others entertainers including Muntu Valdo, from Cameroon, Gordon Masiala & NKA Musica, Daby Touré, Kanda Bongo Man and the UK’s internationally renowned “queen of lovers rock”, Carroll Thompson, with a full live band.
Organiser Paul Duhaney said: “The festival was absolutely amazing this weekend.
“We had massive crowds made up of thousands of people from all over the country.
“When I first started with the team, there were only 200 people coming when the venue was at Concert Square, but each year it’s getting bigger and bigger.
