A 90-YEAR-OLD woman jumped from the roof of the Royal Hospital to raise money for the Linda McCartney Centre.
Angela Gilchrist, and Garston MP Maria Eagle, swallowed their nerves and took part in the last charity zipline event ever to be held at the hospital.
They travelled 1,000ft at speeds of up to 30 miles an hour, zipping over London Road at heights of more than 1000 ft.
And it was not the first time plucky Angela, from Woolton, Liverpool, has braved challenges that would leave most twenty-somethings thinking twice.
In the last three years, partially-sighted Angela has three times abseiled down the face of the Royal.
She said: “This time I was going across, instead of down. A photographer came to the house beforehand and said he was here to see Angela. I said yes, that’s me, and he said no, Angela who is 90. So I was quite happy with that.”
At the end of the line, she said: “It was absolutely fantastic. I wanted to wave with both hands but I didn’t have the nerve.”
Ms Eagle said: “I’ve never done it before, and I’d recommend it to anyone. It certainly takes your mind off other things.”
This was the last zipline event to be held at the Royal ahead of the Hall Lane road improvement.
