Police investigate after Liverpool pub attacked by firebomb

A LIVERPOOL city centre pub was firebombed.

A window was smashed and a petrol bomb thrown inside The Richmond, in Williamson Street.

Firefighters called out just after 3.15am yesterday quickly extinguished the flames.

Watch manager Andy Burton, from the city centre fire station, said: "Fortunately, at the point where the window was broken, there wasn’t a lot of furniture so the flames didn’t have a good chance to really take hold. The damage was confined to a small area of the bar, but the whole room was smoke- logged."

Police are now studying CCTV from the network of cameras across the city centre and looking at forensic evidence.

At this stage, detectives say they are keeping an open mind as to whether it is linked to any other arson attacks on Merseyside pubs recently.

ANYONE with information should call 0151 709 6010.
