Jurors ponder Rainhill murder verdict

JURORS have retired to consider their verdict in the trial of a man accused of murdering his former football team mate.

Stephen Keogh, 45, is alleged to have battered Kevin Monteith to death on the driveway of his home on Holt Lane, Rainhill.

The pair had been drinking in the Holt pub and it is claimed Keogh followed Mr Monteith home and attacked him.

Father-of-three Mr Monteith, 42, was found lying in a pool of blood by son Robert, 21.

Keogh, of Lyme Cross Road, Huyton, denies the murder on November 22 last year.

Jurors have heard he had been having an “inappropriate relationship” with Mr Monteith’s wife for about 18 months before the attack.

Jurors at Liverpool Crown Court began deliberations yesterday, but were unable to reach a verdict. They will continue discussions today.
