A DRUNK who threatened a police officer with a broken bottle while on a suspended sentence has been put behind bars.
Mohamed Meziane, 40, of no fixed address, was jailed for two months and ordered to serve his outstanding six months after threatening PC Joanne Bruder.
Liverpool Crown Court heard police were called to St John’s Garden in the city centre after reports of a disturbance. When PC Bruder arrived, she discovered Meziane wielding the broken bottle, but he refused to drop it and lunged wildly at her.
She pursued Meziane with a police dog, but he only dropped the weapon after another officer threatened to Taser him.
Jailing him, Judge Charles James said: “It is my part of my job to protect police officers.”
John Gibson, defending, told how Meziane, who admitted assault, had been unable to settle after arriving from Algeria and now wished to return to his homeland.
