Conference salutes Liverpool’s culture links with universities

CULTURE Campus Liverpool, the partnership between Liverpool’s universities and the city’s arts and culture sector, has hosted a major symposium this week.

Entitled Cultural Capital, yesterday’s event saw more than 100 senior academics and leading arts professionals gather at Hope’s Cornerstone campus to address a range of issues which may impact on the future of both higher education institutions, and the arts and culture sector.

Culture Campus Liverpool was established in April, 2006, with the aim of helping to attract and retain local talent.

The unique cross-sector platform saw senior academics from Liverpool’s three universities and the directors from Liverpool’s major cultural organisations – including FACT, Tate Liverpool, and the Liverpool Biennial – share best practice, debate issues, network, collaborate and build mutually beneficial relationships.

Presenters, speakers and panellists contributing to discussions included Dr Christoph Grunenberg (Director of Tate Liverpool and Chair of Culture Campus), Belinda Kidd, of Liverpool Arts Regeneration Consortium (LARC), Ruth Melville, of Impacts 08, Paul Smith, from Liverpool Biennial, Aileen McEvoy (Arts Council North West), and Prof Mike Stubbs ( FACT).

Dr Grunenberg said that Culture Campus “gives a genuine opportunity to build on the great success of ‘08 and help create a truly world-beating academic and cultural offer over the next two decades.”
