THREE nurses, with more than 140 years of combined experience in Merseyside health care, have retired.
Friends and former colleagues of Frances Ellison, Margaret Richardson-Owen and Irene Taylor – who all worked in the cardiac unit of Alder Hey hospital – threw a party to celebrate their achievement and say goodbye.
Since training up in the late 1950s and early 1960s, between them the women worked across the region, in hospitals including Broadgreen, Ormskirk, the Royal, Liverpool, Sefton General, and Liverpool Maternity Hospital.
After all having families of their own, they each returned to work as bank staff before becoming colleagues at Alder Hey.
Alder Hey chief executive Angela Jones said: “They have made a huge contribution to the babies, children and young people of Merseyside, and beyond.
“They will be greatly missed and I would like to thank them for their dedication and professionalism.”
