LONDON Tube train drivers used to telling passengers tales of woe about journey problems are being asked to mix quotes from Shakespeare and Goethe with their normal announcements.
The initiative is being introduced on the Piccadilly line where drivers and station staff have been issued with a booklet of quotations.
Quotes to be read out include “An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory” (Engels) and “Nothing is more worth than this day” (Goethe).
The booklet takes its name from a line in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus – “What is the city but its people?”
