North West Food Award winners announced

LUXURY delicatessen Delifonseca and soft drink firm Vimto both won top food awards over the weekend.

The Stanley Street deli and restaurant, which has seen its business grow by 30% in just three years, was named best small or medium sized business at the North West Food Awards.

Newton-le-Willows-based Vimto also picked up the award for innovation. The judges praised its new pouch drink aimed at teenagers.

Candice Fonseca, who owns Delifonseca, said: “We are thrilled to win this award.

“It has been an exciting year for us and we are delighted to be recognised for our achievements by our industry peers, and are looking forward to a successful year ahead.”

Wirral’s Church Farm Organics also scooped the fruit and vegetables prize in the Fine Foods North West Awards. The Thurstaston farm has been hand-growing asparagus for 15 years.

Southport Seafoods also won the fish and seafood category for its Genuine Southport Potted Shrimps in Butter.

Butchers Broughs, of Birkdale, won the cured and cooked meat award for its dry/sweet cure smoked bacon.
