UK plane anniversary

THE 100th anniversary of the first all-British aeroplane will be marked with the unveiling of an exact replica of the legendary craft.

The grandson of its creator, Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe, will launch the fully-flyable plane at Walthamstow Marshes, east London, where the original was built.

The Roe I Triplane made history on July 13, 1909, when its short hops were officially recognised as flights.

Within ten days, the craft had flown 900ft and flight pioneer AV Roe was recognised as the first Englishman to design, build and fly an all-British aeroplane.
