A CATHOLIC college which forbade Muslim girls from wearing their veils during a school visit was criticised last night.
Visitors to a sixth- form open day at St Mary’s College, in Blackburn, Lancashire, were asked to remove their head coverings before they looked round the site.
Principal Kevin McMahon said: “This lady, a member of staff at the school, refused, and opted to leave the premises.”
Mohammed Shafiq, spokesman for the Muslim youth organisation The Ramadhan Foundation, said: “It seems to me to be an example of people jumping on the bandwagon against the veil.
“These women have taken a decision to wear that particular dress, and as a society we should recognise that.”
