Fourth man facing prison over Liverpool city centre attack which left Liverpool University student dead

In May last year, Simon Taylor and Kevin O'Dea were both jailed for seven years for manslaughter after being found guilty by a jury. Following their convictions, prosecutors also charged Faustino and Thomas Canning. Canning admitted his guilt in February.

He was jailed for four years, despite the court accepting he may never have laid a finger on Mr Hardy.

At the Court of Appeal last Monday, judges rejected an appeal from O'Dea against his conviction. They also upheld the sentences of all three men.

During previous hearings, the court heard trouble had flared between part-time model and Manchester United corporate host O'Dea, of Co Donegal, and Sion Hardy's school friend Stephen Lunne.

When the club closed, Mr Hardy bumped into Mr Lunne and his friend and they walked into the underpass at Wolstenholme Square.

But they were followed by football friends Faustino, O'Dea, Canning, of Crickhowell, Powys, and Taylor, of Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire.

About 40 seconds later the men emerged “celebrating”. Mr Hardy, of Bangor, North Wales, had suffered a devastating blow to the left side of his neck and died in hospital.
