Hotel baby tragedy mother cleared

A BRITISH woman was acquitted of killing her newborn son after giving birth during a holiday in Crete, her defence lawyer said last night.

Leah Andrew, 21, from Hither Green, south-east London, was arrested last July after giving birth alone in her Malia hotel room to a boy who was later found dead.

She was detained and charged after a coroner said the baby had been born alive and died of suffocation. Miss Andrew’s lawyer, Zoe Lama, yesterday said Miss Andrew had been acquitted of killing her newborn son.

Miss Andrew, who has two other children, spent 11 months in custody.
