A CONMAN who tricked eBay customers out of nearly £3,000 has walked free from court.
David McKenna, 36, repeatedly sold expensive games consoles on the online auction site.
But Liverpool Crown Court heard he never owned the items and simply took the bidders’ cash with no intention of sending on any goods.
Graham Pickavance, prosecuting, told how McKenna sold the items under his mother’s name and used her email and house address.
When buyers eventually complained, police raided his elderly and vulnerable mother’s home in Falcon Hey, Aintree.
McKenna, of Grubble Road, Fazakerley, was later interviewed and initially claimed the listings were done by his mother, but later admitted he had been behind the scam.
But McKenna, who admitted 25 counts of fraud, was spared prison after Judge Gerald Clifton heard he led a hard-working life caring for his mother and wife.
He added that McKenna, who has no previous convictions, also cared for their two children and suspended a 51-week prison sentence for two years with supervision.
