The Ship & Mitre in Dale Street Liverpool named Pub of the Year by Camra Liverpool & Districts branch

Geoff Edwards, chairman of Camra Liverpool and Districts, said: “The Ship is an incredibly popular pub.

“Traditionally, it’s been Liverpool’s flagship real ale pub, something which was established under a previous landlord, Dave Stevenson.

“It has won many awards in the past, including pub of the year four years on the run in the 1990s, and it’s great to see it doing so well.”

Meanwhile, five city alehouses were named Pubs Of Excellence: the Baltic Fleet, the Dispensary, the Fly In The Loaf, the Lion Tavern and Thomas Rigby’s.

The Lady of Mann – an offshoot of Thomas Rigby’s, in Dale Street – won Best Newcomer to Real Ale and the Community Pub award went to Stamps Too, in Waterloo.

The Tony Molyneux Award was handed to Dave Cunningham – a long-standing Camra member and a former branch chairman – while the Baltic Fleet’s Wapping Brewery was recognised for being a regional winner in the Champion Beer of Britain competition (awarded by Camra HQ) for its Wapping Stout.
