A NEW home dialysis machine as small as a sewing machine is set to be launched at a UK hospital for the first time.
Lister Hospital, in Stevenage, is the first in the UK to take delivery of the new NxStage home haemodialysis machines and will unveil them to patients today.
The machine marks a huge change for home dialysis, which has previously required the installation of mobile units due to the size of the equipment involved.
Consultant nephrologist Dr Roger Greenwood said: “We are inviting patients to try the NxStage units for themselves and receive training on how to use them.
“We have created an environment reminiscent of a home setting, so patients can understand for themselves just how compact and patient-friendly the unit is.”
