A HOUSEWIFE with two young children will be the first “living sculpture” on Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth, it was announced last night.
Rachel Wardell, from Sleaford, Lincolnshire, will take her place on the plinth as the first “living sculpture” in Antony Gormley’s One & Other project, which begins on Monday.
A total of 2,400 people will occupy the plinth, including Daily Post Arts Editor Laura Davis, for an hour each, 24 hours a day, until October 14. Video footage of their performances will be shown live on the project’s website.
Ms Wardell, 35, described herself as a “stay-at-home mum” who had never had much involvement in the arts.
“I felt moved to get involved with this project for several reasons,” she said.
“I like the idea of the arts as inclusive rather than exclusive and feel like this is something that Antony Gormley, and this project in particular, embrace.
“I wanted to be able to represent normal, everyday mums.”
