Rebecca Joy Sharp brings something new to the Celtic harp
A CITY harp player is proving that tradition is no limit to creating new art work.
Rebecca Joy Sharp, from Aigburth, is at the helm of a number of new projects that are taking the traditional Scottish instrument to a variety of different places.
Ms Sharp, 29, came to Liverpool to take a Masters in screenwriting at John Moores University.
With a degree in theatre from Glasgow University under her belt, her play, Last Child, had been performed in the city and off-Broadway.
But upon arrival in Liverpool nearly six years ago, her passion for playing the lever harp returned.
Before she knew it, her musical talent became her focus and writing was put on the back burner.
“As I was walking around Liverpool, I just got a feel for the place.
“When I moved here I started playing more – I had really put the harp to one side.”
