A MOTORIST knocked a cyclist off his bike and then tried to cover his tracks.
Anthony Bond suffered a fractured wrist, chipped teeth and bruises after being hit by Paul Jordan.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Jordan, 27, had failed to see Mr Bond, despite the fact he was wearing a high-visibility jacket and helmet.
He smashed into him at the junction of Westminster Road, in Kirkdale. But Edmund Haygarth, prosecuting, told how he sped away from the scene. He then sold his car the same day.
Jordan, of Burlington Street, Kirkdale, later insisted he had simply sold the car to raise some cash, believing it would be impounded by the police.
He made a full confession to officers after being arrested, and admitted driving without due care and attention and perverting the course of justice. Recorder Nicholas Clarke, QC, him to do 120 hours’ unpaid work as part of a community order.
The court heard Mr Bond's specialist £1,500 bike was also ruined in the crash on April 7, 2008.
