VASILY Petrenko is to be given an honorary degree from Liverpool University next week.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic conductor will have two reasons to celebrate as he receives the honorary Doctor of Music degree on his 33rd birthday on Tuesday.
Liverpool-born Jude Kelly OBE, artistic director of London’s Southbank Centre, will be made an honorary Doctor of Literature at the same event.
Mr Petrenko, who was also honoured by Liverpool Hope earlier this year, said today: “I’m very proud. What’s important is the relations between the university and the Philharmonic and this will strengthen them.
“We haven’t discussed what and how much I will do with them yet, but there will be some collaboration.”
