THE amount British holidaymakers have spent at UK airports has plummeted in recent months.
Spending fell from £1bn in September 2007 to £378m in May 2009, a survey by banking giant Santander revealed.
Over this period, the number of Britons indulging in last-minute airport spending has only dropped from 36% to 35%.
But the average spend per head has fallen from £65 to £24.
