The following year, the group formed Apple Corps to look after their business interests.
But as tensions within the group grew, the final straw was a row between Paul McCartney and the rest of the group over who should manage them.
McCartney wanted Lee Eastman, the father of his future wife, Linda, to represent the group, but John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison preferred Klein.
On September 20, 1969, Lennon told the rest of the group he would be leaving.
Klein, who spent several years in an orphanage after his mother’s death, later served in the US Army before joining a Manhattan accounting firm.
His funeral will take place in New York tomorrow.
