MERSEYSIDE’S Chief Constable is on the shortlist to become the new police chief of Northern Ireland.
Bernard Hogan-Howe is one of five names up for the high-pressure post.
Current incumbent Sir Hugh Orde is set to leave to be president of the Association of Chief Police Officers.
Interviews for the £183,954-a-year post take place in August.
Also on the list are Jim Gamble, chief executive of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP); Matt Baggott, Chief Constable of Leicestershire; Durham Chief Constable Jon Stoddart; and Paul West, Chief Constable of West Mercia.
Mr Hogan-Howe is also down to the final two for the position of Deputy Commissioner of the Met.
