A MURDER investigation is under way after a Liverpool father was killed by a car.
Detectives believe Francis Molyneux, 33, was involved in a confrontation with a gang of youths before he was deliberately mown down in the street.
The Liverpool FC fan was walking along Holt Road, close to his home in Kensington, when he was hit by a dark-coloured Land Rover Discovery.
He was knocked down just before 10.30pm on Thursday and died the following night despite medics best efforts to save him.
Mr Molyneux died in the Royal Liverpool Hospital at 11pm on Friday.
It is believed he argued with the gang of youths at 7pm the previous night, three hours before he was knocked down.
A member of the public called an ambulance and police were alerted.
Officers later arrested four men – a 19 and 28 -year-old from West Derby, a 19-year-old from Kirkby and a 21-year-old from Stockbridge Village.
The men, all arrested in a 4x4 vehicle, were released on bail the following day.
