COMEDIAN and flying enthusiast Ken Dodd launched a series of new flights from Liverpool yesterday.
Doddy, the honorary president of the 500-strong group Friends of Liverpool Airport, welcomed new Eastern Airways flights, which will take travellers to Aberdeen and Southampton three times every weekday.
Dodd came up with the idea for a friends’ group for the then-Speke Airport in 1980. Neil Pakey, deputy chief executive of Peel Airports, said: “We were tickled pink when we heard Ken Dodd was kindly giving up some of his time to celebrate the launch of these important new services. He is a tremendous ambassador for the city and has long been a big supporter of the airport.”
Eastern Airways’ schedules and timings are primarily aimed at business travellers.
