Wirral knife attack in row over alcohol

A TEENAGER who slashed at a friend’s face during an argument over alcohol has been locked up.

Former St Anselm’s pupil Benjamin Gartland, 18, swiped at James Naughalty’s cheek when they clashed over whether he had ordered more alcohol during a drinking session.

Mr Naughalty was left with a nasty wound to his face, which needed 11 stitches at hospital.

Liverpool Crown Court heard the friends had been drinking at a party in Moreton when they ran out of alcohol in the early hours.

They decided to go to a phone-box to order more from a dial-a-crate delivery service.

Judge Mark Brown sent Gartland, of Joan Avenue, Moreton, to a Young Offender’s Institute for 18 months.

Neil Gunn, defending, said Gartland had started using cannabis and cocaine after problems with his family led to him being taken into care.
