Cats make comeback

CATS could be returning to the West End – not the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical but the animal – to combat a vermin problem in theatre-land.

Actors’ trade union Equity agreed on a motion to lobby theatres to introduce moggies in the hope they will see off any mice and rats.

An Equity spokesman said: “We have anecdotal evidence that a number of West End theatres are having a problem with mice and rats.

“Traditionally, this was kept in check by the employment of a theatre cat.

“Bringing cats back seems like a relatively cheap and easy way of combating the problem. It would be good for actors’ morale.”

He described the use of cats as an “environmentally sound alternative to poison and traps”.
