Cubs allowed in

COMMONS Speaker John Bercow has stepped in to allow cub scouts access to Parliament after the House authorities refused permission on the grounds that they were too young.

He overturned the decision to bar the cubs, after MPs complained that it showed how “deeply conservative and out-of-touch” the Commons could be.

The 100 cubs want to use Westminster Hall, within the House of Commons, to lobby MPs about their Stop the Rain Tax campaign against increases in water charges for voluntary groups.

But the House authorities cancelled their booking.
