Two teenagers appear in court charged with manslaughter of Kirkby teenager Ben Smith

TWO youths appeared in court charged over the death of a Kirkby teenager.

The boys, both 16 and from Kirkby, appeared at Huyton Youth Court yesterday on charges of manslaughter.

They stand accused of the unlawful killing of 18-year-old Ben Smith, who died after collapsing in the Kingfisher pub, in Kirkby, on January 7.

Both defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had parents present during the short hearing.

They spoke only to confirm their name, date of birth and addresses.

Both were granted conditional bail. They will next appear in court in September.
