THE choir which has performed at the Hillsborough Memorial Service for the past three years is staging a very special concert.
St Anne’s Choir has used money donated by the Hillsborough Family’s Support Group to purchase the music to John Rutter’s Requiem, which will be performed as part of an evening of music this Saturday in St Anne’s Church, Prescot Road, Old Swan. Geoff Williams, 42, who has been choirmaster and organist there for 25 years, said: “The Hillsborough support group has asked us to sing at the memorials and they gave us a donation for the choir.
“It’s a particularly fitting piece, as there’s comfort in there and optimism.
“My brother was in the stadium during the disaster and very nearly lost his life. We have a small orchestra and even a harpist, Verity Weatherburn, and, after we remember the 96 with the Requiem, there will be lighter music in the second half.”
The evening begins at 7.30pm, on Saturday, July 11.
