Laura Davis on the People's Plinth in Trafalgar Square, London _460
DAILY Post Arts Editor Laura Davis became a piece of art herself yesterday – by taking her place on Antony Gormley’s Fourth Plinth.
The man renowned for the Angel of the North and the Another Place iron men sculptures at Crosby beach is using members of the public in his latest work in the middle of Trafalgar Square.
Laura joined thousands of others in applying to spend an hour on top of the plinth usually reserved for statues.
After a random selection process she was lucky enough to be allocated a slot and the big day finally arrived yesterday.
Blessed with sunshine and blue skies, Laura took her place on the Plinth just before 1pm.
She was accompanied by a special Penguin, as she was using the occasion to promote Liverpool’s Go Penguin festival later this year.
Laura said: “I actually went up five minutes early because the girl before me had to leave to catch her train. It wasn’t as high up as I’d imagined and you felt a lot closer to the people down below.
“The penguin got quite a lot of attention and I wanted to take a little piece of Liverpool up there with me.”
Gormley’s Fourth Plinth runs 24 hours a day for 100 days, with people using their one hour however they wish. l Read Laura’s full account in tomorrow’s Daily Post.
