Church saves historic Cheshire mansion

The octagonal chapel has been completely renovated and improved and now has disabled access and banked seating. A new cross has been installed, made from left-over materials used in the refurbishment project.

Modern audio-visual facilities, including an interactive whiteboard and a media wall have been installed. It is now possible to host conferences for up to 100 people in one room. All rooms have free Wi-Fi access, and Foxhill now has nine meeting rooms of various sizes.

Staying at Foxhill over the past 40 years have been: representatives of a Korean missionary church to Britain; Christians from many parts of Europe; Episcopalians from the USA on a pilgrimage to England; the Welsh Congregational Church; the Mennonites; and the Church of England’s Working Party on Race Relations (which included Dr John Sentamu, when he was Bishop of Birmingham).

The main team at Foxhill comprises husband and wife wardens Ian and Sue Cameron, who have worked there since 1996, and deputy warden Helen Thornton, who has been there for 37 years.

Sue said she was grateful for the expertise of Helen, whom she said was “graceful and sympathetic with the guests, and knows exactly how things are done here”.
