Eight new Deacons for Liverpool Diocese

THE Diocese of Liverpool is celebrating the ordination of eight new Deacons for the Church of England.

The Licensing took place this week at an ordination service at Liverpool Cathedral. Bishop James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool, and Bishop David Jennings, Bishop of Warrington, presided over the service.

After ordination, Andrew Dowsett, Richard Gedge, Ian Greenwood, Julie Haworth, Laura Montgomery, Michael Ridge, Gareth Tracey and Philippa Wetherell will join parishes across the Diocese of Liverpool.

All eight candidates were ordained to the order of Deacon, which enables them to perform certain key duties within a parish. The Deacons will then normally spend a year working as an assistant to a vicar, before the Bishop ordains them to the priesthood.
