THE Rhys Jones Memorial Fund is continuing to forge ahead with fundraising for a community centre in Croxteth Park.
The fund was set up to provide activities for young people after 11-year-old Rhys was shot dead in August, 2007.
A Rhys Jones Memorial Event will be held at Alma De Cuba on August 12. Guests can view plans for the £1.5m centre while Liverpool artists perform.
Emma Ahmed, Rhys Jones Memorial Fund founding trustee, said: “The centre will be a fantastic focal point for the community and people of all ages will enjoy its facilities.
“There is an urgent need for such a centre which will help combat the gang culture in the area.
“We are appealing for people to give whatever they can. The amount of organisations that have supported us is overwhelming.”
Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services (LCVS) is hosting the collection for the fund.
