St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals Trust worst to hit waiting list targets

The figures for the A&E show 11% of patients were seen in the last 20 minutes.

They, however, may need revision based on the outcome of its investigation.

Trust bosses declined to comment.

At the Royal Liverpool Hospital, 15% of patients were seen 20 minutes before the deadline.

Denise Pozzi, divisional general manager for medicine, said: “Our aim is to use the four- hour period to ensure that all investigations are carried out within the A&E department.

“This means that consultants within the department can make informed decisions about whether to discharge or admit patients, to prevent unnecessary admissions to wards.”

Aintree University Hospital’s A&E, at Fazakerley, sees 12% in the final minutes. But a spokesman said the average wait is less than 2½ hours.

Alder Hey children’s hospital is at the bottom of the national list with just under 2%.

However, the hospital does not have the same A & E pressures as others.
