Wirral Council presses on with review of all its assets

He said: “We will either develop it, find another use for it, or someone else to run it.

“The SAR did not have all the assets on it – those were assets which we’d identified as requiring investment under the part of the review we had looked at.

“The asset review is ongoing, and the next big thing is accommodation, Westminster House [Birkenhead], the Town Hall in Wallasey, Acre Lane [Bebington], and the Hamilton Building [Birkenhead].

“Once we know what the accommodation needs of the council are we will be looking at these – it will be every building that the council uses or owns. We’re hoping to do that very quickly.”

The SAR was based on council figures showing an extensive backlog of repairs to its buildings – which were largely inherited in 1974 from five district councils which previously governed Wirral.
