RECYCLING of waste in Chester has almost doubled under the city’s new wheelie bin service, according to the council.
Cheshire West and Chester Council said since its introduction last month, 55% of all household waste collected has been sent for recycling or composting – up from around 30%.
Chester residents’ recycling is now collected in a blue wheelie bin while garden waste is collected in a new green bin.
According to council figures, the amount of waste sent for disposal has also tumbled by over a quarter, helping to reduce reliance on landfill.
Cllr Mike Jones, leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “This has been a mammoth task.”
