He told the Daily Post: “This is a very special day. At one stage I was studying for a doctorate that I didn’t finish.
“At age of 71, I think this is enough – I think I’m in Liverpool to stay.”
Bishop Jones added: “For the students, this is the culmination of a lot of hard work and the fulfilment of a dream.
“What impresses me about Liverpool Hope is the proportion of people from Liverpool.
“There will have been a lot of Scousers in the Cathedral because this really is a university for Liverpool.”
