“CONCRETE proof” that the Barnett Formula is unfair was revealed by the Daily Post earlier this year – in the bricks and mortar of the new Forth Crossing.
Troubled plans for the £2.3bn bridge were rescued by a £500m cash injection delivered as a "Barnett consequential".
Any big spending commitment in England automatically delivers a funding boost for Scotland. So, with £5bn pledged to the Crossrail project in London, Scotland was handed £500m while the English regions received nothing.
In Merseyside, the Merseytram project collapsed in 2005, when the Government refused to hand over £170m.
The Treasury has pledged a whopping £1bn to help build the new Forth Crossing – but even that may not be the end of it.
This week, with the project still in doubt, there were Scottish pleas for the government to stump up even more cash to pay for the bridge.
