A PARANOID schizophrenic who stabbed both his parents to death in a frenzied attack will be detained in hospital indefinitely.
Alan Scott, 36, turned on his parents, Alan senior and Stella Scott at their Allerton home during a delusional episode.
Liverpool Crown Court yesterday heard Scott had suffered from severe mental illness for about 20 years and was twice detained in hospital.
But, in the days leading up to the vicious attack, he missed taking a dose of medication and his condition had deteriorated.
Andrew Menary, QC, prosecuting, told the court Scott began to have completely false delusions that Mr and Mrs Scott were not his biological parents and they had been abusive towards him during his childhood.
He took a taxi to their Redington Road home on the evening of March 31 last year and asked the driver to wait for him.
During the following 10 minutes, he viciously attacked his parents with a kitchen knife in the hallway.
Mr Scott, 61, suffered 13 stab wounds to his face, neck and upper body, while his 63-year-old wife was knifed a total of 37 times.
They were discovered after an emotional Scott confessed to a friend the following day, saying: “It was me, I butchered them last night in cold-blooded murder.”
Officers discovered their bodies in a large pool of blood.
Imposing an indefinite hospital order, the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe QC, said: “Your symptoms have included delusions about your parents abusing or harming you.
“Nothing could have been further from the truth.
“They were kind, supportive people.”
