Tranmere Rovers boss John Barnes kicks off debut day of Wirral hospital’s new children’s department

WIRRAL Hospital’s new children’s department was officially opened by football legend John Barnes.

The development is the first stage of an £11.5m investment by Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in specialist women’s and children’s health services at Arrowe Park.

The new children’s department will provide a range of general and specialist clinics, including diabetes, rheumatology, asthma and orthopaedic clinics, as well as new play areas.

It will be staffed by seven consultant paediatricians, paediatric nurses, healthcare assistants, play leaders and clerical staff.

Former England International and Liverpool player Barnes, who is now manager of Tranmere Rovers, was invited to the official opening.

He was joined by Eryl Hoskins, Chairman of the Trust, who praised the hard work of those who brought the project to fruition.
