Former Liverpool asbestos company building given health all clear after it collapses

A BUILDING which collapsed pouring rubble along Liverpool’s Dock Road poses no health risk to the public it was confirmed last night.

Concerns were raised after it became clear that the abandoned warehouse which fell into the road in the early hours of yesterday was the former offices of the Beldam Asbestos company.

Debris from Lascar House in Waterloo Road littered the street between the junctions with Oil Street and Vandries Street.

Police were sent to the location to keep pedestrians away and traffic was diverted.

The area is popular with city centre workers who can park for free.

Council surveying teams have spoken with the current owners of the site and they indicated that the office was purely the administration centre for Beldam Asbestos Company.

The owners undertook a thorough survey upon taking over the building and confirmed there was no asbestos present.

The area was subject to a number of traffic restrictions yesterday morning while building control teams from the council investigated.
