Italian premier in more scandal

ITALIAN premier Silvio Berlusconi was accused of damaging his government’s image yesterday as a magazine released another, explicit recording of what appears to be him talking to a prostitute.

In a motion before the Senate, the opposition called on politicians to show “decorum” in their private lives and be cautious in their acquaintances.

It is the latest fallout from the scandal surrounding Mr Berlusconi’s alleged encounters with young women.

This week the Italian magazine L’Espresso released recordings of what it said was the night Mr Berlusconi spent with the escort.

It produced further recordings yesterday including what appears to be an explicit conversation between the two.

The premier’s lawyer has disputed the validity of the tapes, saying they were “the fruit of invention”.

The motion presented by the centre-left Democratic Party said the scandal weakened the image and authority of the Italian government.”
