Southport MP John Pugh: Let us hear detail of tragic baby’s ambulance journey

HEALTH chiefs have rejected calls for the early release of transcripts detailing the conversations between hospital staff and paramedics trying to save a four-day-old baby.

Little Oskar Klosowski from Southport died on July 14 after the ambulance crew trying to save him was sent to Ormskirk’s children A&E unit.

His parents, who lived in Bank Square, had raised the alarm at around 1.30am after he stopped breathing.

The ambulance crew attempted to resuscitate Oskar and radioed through to Southport and Formby District General Hospital asking for a doctor to carry on with treatment – but paramedics were apparently told to take the child seven miles away to Ormskirk Hospital because it has the specialised children’s A&E facilities.

Oskar was pronounced dead there.

Parents, taxi drivers and politicians in Southport said the tragedy highlights the need for a children’s A&E unit to be restored to the town.

And local MP John Pugh called for the immediate publication of the conversation between ambulance and hospital staff in order to determine exactly what was said and by whom.

Mr Pugh said: “Who made the decision in the case of baby Oskar and were they the right person?

“If there are no good answers the hospital itself must be reported to the National Patient Safety Agency.
