DAVID Turner QC described how a night of celebration for Steven Gerrard turned to violence when Marcus McGee refused his request over the music in the Lounge Inn.
He said Gerrard could be seen “musing over what happened about the man who had said ‘no’ to Steven Gerrard.
About six minutes later after repeatedly swigging from a bottle, he approached Mr McGee, who was sat alone at the bar and challenged him.
Mr Turner said: “The CCTV shows Mr McGee stood up when spoken to in that way by Mr Gerrard: the two were head to head in the sort of hostile confrontation that is often seen between professional footballers.
“Steven Gerrard had clearly lost his cool, he was very angry with Marcus McGee.” Jurors were told this argument caught the attention of Gerrard’s friends who became involved, the first being John Doran.
Doran pushed Mr McGee and then CCTV footage captured him clearly swinging his elbow at Mr McGee’s face, causing him to fall backwards.
It is then alleged Gerrard became involved, throwing uppercut punches.
