STEVEN GERRARD told police in his interview after his arrest that a fight was “the last thing” he wanted during his night out on December 28.
The midfielder was interviewed three times over a two-hour period at Southport police station, after he was arrested in the early hours of December 29.
Those interviews were read to the court yesterday.
In them, Gerrard said: “That was the last thing I want when I am going for a night out. I go out to enjoy myself and have a good time, and the last thing I want is problems or fighting or anyone getting hurt.
“That is the last thing I want.”
Gerrard said he and his friends had been out in The Grapes, in Formby, before going to the Vincent Hotel, Southport, for some food.
They went to the Lounge Inn at around 10.30pm.
Gerrard said he simply wanted “an input” into the music that was being played in the bar that night, but alleged victim Marcus McGee, who had been asked to select some songs, was “aggressive” towards him.
Gerrard told police the incident “upset” him and he went back to speak to Mr McGee because “I just wanted to sort it out, just wanted to know what his problem was.
“I didn’t want to be on edge for the night.”
