D-MYST campaigners tour Liverpool to get smoking out of youth-rated films

GIANT movie stars pounded the streets of Liverpool city centre to get smoking out of youth-rated movies.

Wearing over-sized papier mache heads of stars such as Jessica Rabbit, the Joker and Samuel L Jackson, youth campaigners D-MYST carried out their quest to get an 18 certificate given to all new films containing smoking.

The tour travelled along Bold Street and onto Williamson Square, finishing outside the Daily Post offices, on Old Hall Street.

Eilidh McCluskie, D-MYST Programme Manager said: “The event was important in raising the public’s awareness of a potentially critical health issue.”

Liverpool City Council is currently consulting on whether to use its powers to rate movies that show smoking as adult-only.

Campaigners claim this would save more than 1,300 lives, but opponents say it is over the top.
