“It is still very short term, year to year, if that. The owners are not able to take the club forward.”
Hicks, 63, and Gillett, 70, purchased Liverpool in 2007 for £174m, taking on £44.8m of liabilities.
They insisted debt would not fall on the club, but the situation changed with Liverpool now having to find around £40m a year to service the debt.
James McKenna, from Spirit of Shankly, said: “This is just an extension, we don’t anticipate anything changing in the next 12 months. It gives Hicks and Gillett more time to make as much money as possible.
“We believe the Government should have intervened and said ‘enough is enough’.”
